A custom WordPress theme for Conquering CHD, formerly the Pediatric Congenital Heart Association, a nonprofit supporting families affected by congenital heart disease, the most common birth defect.
Conquering CHD supports families affected by congenital heart disease, the most common birth defect, through education, advocacy, and community. The site had to serve very different audiences at once: newly diagnosed parents, teenagers transitioning into adult care, national committee volunteers, and donors.
The theme powers age-specific educational resources, a blog, national committee and advocacy pages, an events calendar, a donation flow, and a merch shop, all on a fully custom, on-brand design built from WordPress's template hierarchy and custom fields rather than a page builder.
Skipping the page builder costs more time up front and pays it back for years: faster pages, no bloated plugin stack, and a theme the nonprofit can keep maintaining without depending on me for every content change.
